Mr. Barr, who ought to be our next President, addresses the "bailout" endorsed by socialists McCain and Obama:

He gets one point wrong - a lot of the bidders for the management contracts so far seem to be the people that performed better than their peers who are in the most trouble. Blackrock and Pimco - two of the best money managers in the nation - appear to be front runners at this point. My own former firm, one of the better real estate managers in the world, is also bidding.

Interesting point. I'd like to hear more about this.

Tell me what you want to know and I'll see what I can answer.

Blackrock is one of the premier fixed income shops and does a tremendous amount of work on the fixed income side of things. They're generally regarded as one of the sharpest knives in the drawer on risk management issues. My own former employer has submitted a proposal and is widely regarded as one of the premier commercial real estate shops in the country. On our commercial real estate side, we do a level of analysis on commercial real estate debt that no other player in the US can do today. Both companies have largely avoided the worst of the mess, although my former employer's stock is taking a pounding lately for no other reason than it's a financial company.
