Has anyone besides me read these? Amazon was giving away Hunger Games for Kindle back in the winter, so I read it and immediately bought Catching Fire after I was done. I had Mockingjay delivered electronically the night it was released (last week) and read that. The series is for teens. The books are quite violent, but I found them engaging. Of course, I enjoy post-apocalyptic/dystopian literature in general, so maybe that's why I liked them.

Someone recommended these to me just this week so I have them on my list but haven't read them yet. Glad to see your recommendation, too.

I just finished reading the series. I don't mind people seeing the books I read, even though they are marketed for much younger people than I. I also liked the Twilight series! I guess I am a teenager at heart.

I have read them all, but I read Mockingjay first. DH is a bookseller and they got two advance reader copies back in the Spring. AMAZING book, and the series is just outstanding. i can't wait for the movie!

I've read Hunger Games and Catching Fire, my husband actually recommended the books to me! They go way beyond female youths in terms of their appeal. Mockingjay is next on my list. The violence didn't bother me that much. I think the series has outstanding characters.

My 13 year old son has burned through the books as well - I can't think of another series I've enjoyed as much quite honestly.

IF "Hunger Games" comes out in a movie, I'll be there. I am really curious about how they pull it off. I also await the next installment of the Twilight series. I really like Werewolf characters anyway.

I finished The Hunger Games yesterday, started Catching Fire last night and just finished it and downloaded Mockingjay to start. Very engaging, the characters are really fleshed out and intriguing. As is the story line.

I'm not surprised. After I finished Mockingjay, I went back and started reading the whole trilogy again without the gap between books. So much more makes sense now. (I had read Hunger Games in February, I think.)

I heard a lot about them, but I haven't read them yet. I love YA books, so maybe i'll check them out. Thanks.

I started Hunger Games awhile back. Never finished it. Not that I didn't enjoy it - I just lost easy access to a copy. I found it a step above the typical YA offerings you see these days.

I'm in the process of reading Hunger Games. Also reading the Maximum Ride series. I prefer teen books over adult books

I flew through those books and loved them. My only complaint is that the last one ended rather suddenly with not a lot of follow-through. That's my pet peeve with some writers. I dunno if they are so worn out at the end or what? If you like the HG trilogy, I'd recommend Matched by Ally Condie. It will be a trilogy but so far only the first book is out.

Bumping this up as I just read these three books over the past week (would have been within a couple of days but I was in the hospital for part of the time and couldn't get to my books! ) I really enjoyed these. Since they were written for young adults, a lot of the details of the violence was rather glossed over, which I appreciate. I was surprised a few times, thinking things would go one direction and then they didn't. I loved that the characters were very real, very fleshed out. None of them were perfect, they all had their faults and didn't always overcome them the way you wished they would, but they were human. That's life. The storyline was fascinating, kind of like Gladiator for the younger set. I was ready to jump up and find a revolution to start after finishing Catching Fire. SPOILER SECTION: I thought it was an interesting that Pres. Coin ended up with the potential to be just as heartless and cruel a leader as Pres. Snow, though I really should have seen it coming (what with the fanatical control of the lives of the people in District 13, even to the point of evaluating exactly how many calories they would need before their next meal - sheesh). I totally cheered when Katniss sent the arrow her direction. And Pres. Snow literally laughing himself to death at that turn of events gave me great satisfaction for some reason. I'm glad that Katniss eventually fell in love with Peeta for real, even though it took a very long time. That was realistic, IMO, for the trauma they had been through. I kept expecting a surprise twist that Gale ended up being exposed as one of the "bad guys" so the choice would be easier for Katniss. The potential was there as Gale had a darker side to him than Peeta ever did (without the brainwashing, that is) but I was very glad they didn't go there. I found the storyline a bit hard to follow sometimes and would have to go back a couple of pages here and there to see if I had missed something, but I think that was because we were seeing things from Katniss's point of view and she was often confused about who she could really trust and what was really going on. Gave it a more realistic feel, even if it was frustrating at times. Some random points of interest - Katniss's "wedding gown" burning up into the plumage of a mockingjay literally made me gasp out loud. Brilliant. I hate that Cinna had to pay for that one with his life, but what a way to go out. Loved that Katniss came in and made a political statement (by hanging the dummy) about the Games after Peeta had just done the same thing with his painting of Rue. They really were of one mind, even if they didn't always understand that. Katniss and Prim and their respective interactions with the cat made me laugh, as it totally reminded me of myself and my daughter and our cat. The cat is a demon around me and an angel around her, just as Buttercup was with Katniss and Prim. I cried buckets when Buttercup made his way to the house only to find that Prim was dead though.

It's been awhile since I read this trilogy, but loved it! I've been enjoying YA trilogies lately. They are clean, adventurous fun. I've gotten away from adult books because of language and sexual content.

I read the print version and loved it, but recently checked out the audio version from my library. The woman narrating has a way too old sounding voice to narrate a 16 year old. It's a bit distracting.
