AMEN! I totally understand the reasoning WHY "Reality TV" exists (produce CHEAP programming, that, at even "moderate" ratings, creates enough revenue to make a profit)....not to mention the endless opportunities for "product placements"....(which means even MORE revenue).... though, "reality" TV isn't "Reality"....those on "Survivor" and such are now primarily "wannabe actors/actresses" and "drama-queens".....who know how to "act" in front of a camera to "make a scene".... That great show, "Everybody Loves Raymond"? now THAT was "reality TV"! And, don't even get me started on that "Extreme Makeover: home edition" show! UGH! what a FARCE! Ever watch "Frontier House" on PBS? Or "Texas Ranch House"?.... Or the other couple of shows like it? That's definitely been the best "reality" TV I have seen.....VERY well done.... "History Detectives" is also kinda, sorta "reality TV"....with one exception....the events that are discussed ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN REAL LIFE (usually)!!!!!!

Does Hell's Kitchen count as a reality tv programme? That's the only one I like... The rest I turn off...

I hate and despise ALL "Reality" TV. They show the lack of original thinking in the media today. I much prefer watching my dvds of old tv shows.

Reality TV is just an excuse for not hiring writers.

well i say i live reality every day. i dont wanna see it on the tv. it has never shown me anything. survivor was decent first season then they started basing all off the first and let me know either copying or was planned. you dont plan reality. it either happens way you hope or doesnt. is no cut's or doubles or such in real life. so dont try and shove it down my throat. i consider reality shows any where they do that mess. and dont EVEN get me started on the modernized star search junk tv like idol, top model, and that mess.

I am proud to say I have never watched a single episode of "Survivor". But then again that goes more to my non-conformist streak, as everyone says you have to see it, therefore I will not (I have the same policy regarding "It's a Wonderful Life". Everyone has watched it and loved it, therefore I have no interest in seeing it. But I digress...). I will watch American Idol, since the first several episodes are a hilarious look at what the most insipid, pathetic elements of society are willing to do to get on national TV. And I like singing, so in the end it's not too bad. But that is the only one I will tolerate. The "Dancing" ones are sad to even think about, and "America's Got Talent" is just a sad excuse for network execs to put something on the air just because some lobotomized zombies will tune in to anything if you put the "Hoff" and/or Jerry Springer in it. I remember a few years back when Spike TV put the "Joe Schmo Show" on the air. The concept was awesome. It was a reality show that was not a reality show. They took some poor schlub and made him think he was on a reality show, competing for money. Everyone else on the show was an actor. It was hilarious to see how many times they came close to blowing it and exposing themselves to him what they were actually doing. He was a pretty good sport in the end. Then came "Joe Schmo 2", and ended the series. What they did to that guy was just plain wrong, and probably resulted in a hefty lawsuit, which is why they stopped doing the show (it was kind of like the Bacheloret, to give you a clue). Which was too bad, because it did such a good job of making fun of all the things wrong with reality TV.

I disagree on AI, because if it was not for this show, stars like Jennifer Hudson, Mandisa, David Cook, and yes, Carrie Underwood would have not been successful. But this season, and they are talking about Paula leaving the show, and that fourth eye looking, they are going to weed out those "bad singers" faster. Secondly, the one show that should be out is the "Real Housewives" series--yes the OC and the Atlanta series. These women are a disgrace to society. I was disapointed in the Atlanta one because the women on there, especially Ne Ne, showed her ignorance. I mean, these people did not know how to act and instead of being classy women, these women was acting like they were a hot ghetto mess. And the OC ones, these people need to sit down.

well considering i might have bought some of the "stars" that were on american idol show it was for my daughter. i personally say get out and get a contract like the rest. i really got sick and tired of people keeping that guy on a few years back JUST to see how he would have his hair the next week. no talent just wanted to see his hair. that was a sign that the show was beyond being about talent and just another mindless ploy to destroy tv. a prime example why i dont even own one.

Ever watch "Frontier House" on PBS? that is the only reality t.v that I will ever watch! I despise it all, it's all fake, and it's all stupid drama. I agree with JoeyWest, I life reality, why do I need to watch it on T.V? quote:
Reality TV is just an excuse for not hiring writers. I laughed when I read that, but it's true!
