I guess there are men who cook for their wives, men who clean house for their wives....I guess, but I have never met one, but I have never met a man who did not assume the grill is HIS. Assuming both husband & wife work, why would a man assume that outdoor grilling is his job when he would never take initiative to cook a dinner on a stove?

Don't know. I both grill and cook inside. Grilling is a little bit easier since there is less pans to clean after and it's easy to grill some extra to have for leftovers. But I do both. I cook about 3/4 of the meals and usually do the cleanup too. We cook a large dinner 2 or 3 evenings a week. Rest of the time it's everyone scrounge for leftovers, make a sandwich or whatever. She does most of the cleaning though.

Why is all the questions that get asked in the " He says" column full of male stereotypes? Many men are excellent cooks. Especially those of us that haven't married yet. I don't grill, where I come from we barbecue. Bbq or grill yes its mine but so is the kitchen. My specialty is high protein/low fat/med carbohydrate dishes. When I'm not in training like I currently am I'll cook a higher fat alternative for Sunday dinner ( my one cheat day of the week when not in training ) like Shrimp fettuccine or meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy. If your asking why your husband doesn't cook I would ask did he cook while you were dating? If the answer is no why would you expect him to cook now? If you are talking about single men then most I know cook or don't eat. I'm sure there are some that live on takeout but for the vast majority of my guy friends take out is a treat and eating for a healthy lifestyle means cooking our own meals.

Now go get me a lemonade. With real fresh squeezed lemons. I've got some grillin to do! OK seriously. I've done all the cooking in our family, inside or out for about 5 years now. My wife passed away three years ago and she was too sick during the last two to do the cooking. When she was alive and healhty I cooked occasionally. She was a much better cok than I am.

I grill because I can! (And I've tried to eat what she has tried to grill. Note the word "try" there... ) But although I don't cook that much because of the fact that I'm working two jobs and she is the one at home, I will take on the task when I can to give her a break from it. I understand her feelings of it being "groundhog day" day after day.

Grilling is NOT about cooking... it's an event. A chance to hang with the guys on the deck, cold beer in hand, smell the fire, talk about who is gonna get spanked in this weekends game, etc.

ORIGINAL: SamsonUSA Why is all the questions that get asked in the " He says" column full of male stereotypes? Many men are excellent cooks. Awww, come on now.....I didn't stereoptype all men. I clearly said, "I guess there are men who cook for their wives". I also broke it down to a single category, "Assuming both husband & wife work.......". I am categorizing only a small group (not stereotypoing men) and the proof is in the answers. All I am seeing are answers from the ones that DO cook on both stove & grill. Only one individual, stamper_ben, said he works two jobs & she is the one at home. Even that answer was not from a man who actually falls in this category. Yet, there are many who do. I am just wondering why.

I missed the "Assuming both husband & wife work......." before I answered. But I can tell you that when we both did work that the dinnertime chores, whether it was cooking or cleanup was a shared responsibility. How else would I know what the quality of the grilling was when she did it? Not to mention the lack of heat in the brickets... So, I guess my answer to your question is that my wife doesn't know how to stack the charcoal, wet them with lighter fluid, allow them to burn down to the right temperature, nor tell when the meat is right to take off and serve. So when there is food to be cooked on the grill - I do it.

I'm also single. So now you know at least one man who cooks and cleans. In fact, I do about 95% of the cooking and grocery shopping. Oops, I don't qualify for this question. I have no wife, just a sister that I share an apartment with. For the past 27 years. I hate to burst your bubble, but your question is stereotyping men, married ones. Here's a hint, if your question includes the word "most", you're stereotyping.

Hello misunderstoodduck I don't know why men assume the grill is there's. It's the same with the remote. My son's late grandmother in law was bound determined that he would take the garbage out. It was his job and he was not a good husband if he didn't I don't know how he stood it. I would have locked the old biddy in her room and let her out when she stopped her incessant nagging. Now, there might be some power problems here. It depends on which one of your and his parents were the strongest. My wife's mother ruled the roost and we've locked horns more than once. I've actually told her to bug off on mechanical things. She knows nothing about fixing most things but I have to wage a campaign to convince her that I do know a few things about mechanical things. I guess the grill thing got started when families get together. The men congregate outside and there is the grill. Incidently, I do help my wife a lot. She hates to see me do things in the kitchen. That's her area. Her generation was thaught that. It's rough on her because she is limited to what she can do physically. Your screen name is intersesting. Are you in any way related to the Aflack duck?

This is further proof to me that I am unusual. I don't like grilling. I love cooking almost any other way, but when I try to grill, the results aren't pretty. My wife can, but I can't. I guess to every rule there's an exception, eh?

I grill because it's the only cooking I can do reliably w/o screwing up. -Dan.

I actually prefer to cook than to grill. I like the taste of grilled food better but I hate having to stand out there in the hot sun getting bit by skeeters! Maybe I should get a smoker instead. Better tasting food and the smoke would get rid of those bugs.

There now you've met a man who cooks, mostly inside and cleans! If and when I grill it is to grill chicken to add to my grilled chicken alfredo, and yes, I make my own alfredo. Or I grill out burgers for my blu-cheese burgers, maybe a steak now and again or pork chops for marinated and grilled (Steak or chops) with Mixed her chimichuri and again, yes, I make my own chimichuri. I clean as I go and fortunately I have four kids so what I don't clean, gets washed by the older two kids.

I do both....and my mother taught me how to cook from the time I was around 8 years old...so it isn't something I avoid, but enjoy...esp. when there are lots of guests coming over. I guess you have just met the wrong men .
