I expect plenty of christianese but this is not what I'm looking for.

I believe that it is important for you and I to fully know how and why we are drawn to God and to be able to adequately express what you know and what you feel to others. If you do not believe that this has anything to do with feelings then express this and explain why. Thanks!

Allegiance is the only reasonable response to His sacrifice and Victory.

'God's love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.'(1John 4:9,10)

Because He gave me my spiritual family here on earth and I love them dearly. And when it's hard, if I'm not about my Heavenly Father's business here on earth, I can at least be about my spiritual father's business and that's DEFINITELY my Heavenly Father's.

My christianese
I believe love is an action - it's something you DO.
"God so loved the world He gave...", "No greater love has any man than this, that he lay down his life..." I love because He first loved me.

Others may se it differently, but - before Christ I did not have the capacity to love - for love Himself had not yet been revealed to me. Sure, there was the 'feelings' and the kind of love we have for family, friends and significant others, however, as deep as it may have seemed, it was surface - and not able to go any further. When Jesus found me and love was revealed, the love that flows from me now is His. I am compelled to love out of the very compassionate love that flowed to me from Him - If I am truly loving at all - it's not me really, it's Him. "Not I that lives, but Christ who lives within me..." It's love Himself.

Absolutely NO christianese! Not really... I know it's impossible.

I want the gut wrenching soul searching reason that you love God. A reason that no one has ever expressed but everyone wishes they would have.

It is impossible to love God without help because you and I were so lost. We did not know how and many still struggle after getting saved.

I thought my answer was pretty non-christianese...but i'll dig a little deeper into the well.

I love God simply because of who He is...all things holy, pure and good. Absolute pefection; that's what draws me to him, BUT to love instead of fear him -- it is His faithfulness to his wandering children, his absolute commitment, his closeness, kind of like Aslan -- God isn't safe but he's good. And that is a very safe place.

And if you pick apart Christianese in this post....you'll just have to get over it. -- Hey look ...an angel!

I am responding without reading any of the other responses.

What compels me to love God is His life, the new life He has given me. I still have the old nature and believe me I have tried to walk in the flesh and do the things I used to do. Yes, I can still do some of those things but I have something in me now that does not like it. I have something in me that wants to follow Christ and please God. His Spirit has made me alive and I now have a choice to walk in life or in death. I can walk in the flesh and be miserable. I can walk in the spirit and be content. I now have a choice, not a choice to be saved or not be saved but a choice to be miserable or content. I love Him for giving me this option and for forgiving me over and over and over. I love Him for being so longsuffering with such a fool as I am. So many times I have chosen to walk in the flesh even though I live in the spirit. He has not cast me aside but he truly loves me... so I have learned to love Him.

I am sorry if I used any Christianese.. I just don't know any other way to answer a question like this.

I am compelled to love Him because of His love for me. Love never fails...

Julien

I love God because I can trust Him and He never lets me down. Even if I don't like what He has to say, I know He always has my very best interests in mind.

There is no one on earth like Him that can even hold a torch to that.

I learned the hard way after having been let down and betrayed so many times. And even though these things still happen sometimes, I know I can turn to God. Always and forever He is there. My solid and unmoveable Rock!!

What compels me to love God?

Hmmm…
Somehow I always relate my need for God and my love for God as a child would need and love his/her parents. Without Him I wouldn’t really know what to do. The security in knowing He is always going to be there for me, even when stuff on this earth goes awry, even when loved ones pass on, God will be there with me, sustaining me and keeping me under His wings is one of the things I can verbally describe in what compels me to love God.

It is stepping outside and taking a breath of fresh air and your body says thank you. This is God. I appreciate all that He has created. I see Him in adults and in children. It is like how you feel when you are starving and you sit down to your favorite hot meal and take that first bite and ummmmmmm! This is God.

It is looking at my wife when she is not looking my way and thinking I can't believe you love me. God did this. It is passing a test that was extremely hard and I just knew I would flunk it. I actually cried and praised Him. This is God.

At a football game recently I was high up in the stadium and the sun was setting and the sky was a reddish-orange. It was beautiful and it was God that did it.

It is praying with Walker at night and hugging each other as tight as we can and laughing about it. God did this.

I am compelled to love a God that did all this and more. I can't help it! I see Him everywhere every single day, in so many ways and in so many things.

He did something in me to cause me to observe and see all of this and to love and worship Him. I can see and my eyes are wide open. I won't have another chance to experience life. I sometimes wonder if the angels God created are jealous. We have a great gift because we live and a greater gift yet because of what Christ did.

I am like a child in wonderment and awe of how great a God we have.

What Compels You To Love God?

Wow - good question.

My own personal testimony is that of my Lord and Saviour drawing me to Him. His grace saved me. The more I get to know my Lord and Saviour - the more I love Him and the more I am amazed that He sought me to be His child. God did not seek me because I was better than anyone else or because I was a good person because when you come to know the goodness of God, you like Paul will say that your own righteousness is as filthy rags. God sets His love upon us first, even when we have no thoughts of love towards Him. His love is not dependant upon our goodness or love for Him (which is just as well because I was a self-lover and not interested in God). It is while we are yet sinners that God seeks us and sets His love upon us.

These are lovely and I don't wish to take anything from what you have said because they are glimpses of God's love towards us. However, how do you apply the same OP question to someone who has suffered terrible things in life? What if your child is a new born and only has hours to live? What if you lose a loved one to cancer? What if a storm enters your life and it turns everything upside down? It's very easy when we life is hunky dorey but what about when it is the opposite? How can you relate the OP then because suffering is very much a part of many people's lives at this moment?

I am still compelled to love God. My next door neighbor was paralyzed from the neck down and he often asked me to help do things that were past what I thought a neighbor should have to do but he touched my life in ways I cannot describe. He died over a year ago. God is sovereign and does as He pleases and I find comfort in knowing that there is purpose and reason in every thing beyond our understanding.

I am quite the same. Without Him I am nothing. Vulnerable, scared and lonely. With Him I have faith & courage; and He lifts me and gives me words.

How and why we are drawn to God.
The how part is that he placed the Holy spirit within us, in our hearts. Cause we asked Jesus to come into our lives.
Why we are drawn is because we soon realize that he is the source of our growth in the spirit. Food of truth, water of truth, breath of faith in truth. We can not experience spiritual anything which is in truth without the source of truth. Jesus experienced all the ranges of emotions or feelings, but he seperated all of the human feelings to experience his spiritual mission. I am learning at this point to understand what is to LOVE God with all our hearts and soul and mind. For me this is what i want to learn and understand. To understand to give my obediance as a young disciple to this one concept is going to take me places that i haven't experienced yet, but i want to see his hand working in my life. When we can see things through his eyes things look different. Like Peter said Lord where else is there to go. There's only one road to Heaven and i want to walk on that road.

"A bruised reed He will not break
and a smoking flax He will not quench."

God allowed you to see His grace at work in someone's life who knew suffering and difficulties. I believe we see much beauty in a life which has been bruised through suffering and difficulties and in whose life God's Holy Spirit is a living testimony (such as your friend). There is a reed (I don't know it's name) but when it is bruised it difuses the most beautiful fragrance and such is a life surrendered to the Lord. May others smell the fragrance of Jesus through our lives also. So just as there is beauty in the things you first mentioned Walker, there can also be beauty even in the difficulties which God allows to touch our lives/others lives when Christ is living in a person's heart.

Beauty from pain

When life is all rosy
and seems at it's best
Lord may I be mindful
that in You I'm blessed.

But if things don't turn out
as I'd like them to be
Please help me remember -
"my life's safe in Thee."

And just as there's sunshine
there's oftentimes rain
Yet God can work through all
and births beauty from pain.

So may nothing be wasted
in my walk with Thee -
May others be blessed Lord
and see Jesus in me.

Thank you for sharing this Walker.
God bless. L1

I am compelled to love God because I have seen that the problem is not the world, or that I was not hugged enough as a child, but that the problem is me. There is something wrong with me.

And yet...God so loved me, that He gave His only Son for me. The only solution to me, is Jesus Christ.

Only God could provide that, and only a loving God, would. It is that Love, that Love that gives everything in exchange for nothing; it is that Love that compels me to return to Him what He has freely given me.

Peace

His grace and mercy, the fact that He is in control and always watching over us, and most of all, the fact that He can listen to the prayers of everyone in the world at the same time and give every single person His full attention! That boggles my mind!
