I have been wondering if I'm "born again" or not. Whether I'm a "Hypocrite" or "Pharisee" because I think that it's easy to be that in America, today.

I've been meditating on Philip. 3 & 4 and John 7:37, 38 ... I can type these verses easily because I've trying to find Jesus in a deep and personal way and people have told me that it's through the Bible, through the Word of God. (I think that I might find Him....)
because I don't believe that love is something flowery and metaphysical that binds you in a weird way to others as programs on T.V. persist in portraying.....

*anyways* my question is what somebody on my LJ posted about salvation:

here it is:
My Beloved in CHRIST JESUS

While reading my Bible today in the Book of 1 Corinthians, I was lead by the LORD to share these verses and the accompanying commentary. HE is speaking to someone and I am not privy to whom it is, yet I pray that HE is Glorified in convicting you and forgiving you and sanctifying your soul back to HIM. Whomever it is that is reading this, HIS Arms are open and waiting to embrace you again :) the commentary is in blue

"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? (This shoots down the unscriptural Doctrine of Unconditional Eternal Security) Be not deceived: ( As the LORD says "let no man deceive you" MK 13:51)neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, (the proof of true Christianity is the changed life) Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. (refers to those who call themselves Believers but yet continue to practice the sins mentioned whom the HOLY SPIRIT says are not saved, irrespective of their claims.) And such were some of you: ( before conversion) but ye are washed, ( refers to the Blood of JESUS cleansing from all sin) but ye are Sanctified, (one's position in CHRIST) but ye are justified (declared not guilty) in the name of the Lord Jesus, (refers to CHRIST and what HE did at the Cross, in order that we might be saved) and by the Spirit of our God." (proclaims the Third Person of the Triune GODHead as the Mechanic in this great Work of the Cross)
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 KJV

"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, (refers to the human body of the Born-Again Believer as being a Sanctuary of the HOLY SPIRIT) which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? (We belong to the LORD!) For ye are bought with a price: (the shed Blood of CHRIST at Calvary) therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." (because we are all created by GOD, and have been purchased at a great price.)
Corinthians 6:19-20 KJV

Whomever the LORD is speaking to ( me included) may HIS Truth steer you home.

my question is ..... "can you explain salvation in respect to this passage" thank you.

The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is life in Christ Jesus. Salvation is the receiving of life, eternal life, Christ's life.

Romans 5:10
"For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!"

And we who have received Him have become the righteousness of God...

"God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that IN Him we might become the righteousness of God." 2 Cor. 5:21

We, who are in Christ, are new creatures entirely. The old has gone, the new has come. We have been born anew. We have a new mind, we have a new heart, we have a new identity. We are no longer what we were. We were fornicators, idolaters, thieves etc.. We were not those because we did those things. We did those things because it was who we were.

"...And such were some of you". That is who we were. That was our identity. "but ye are washed, but ye are Sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." And this is who we now are.

Who we now are, as Children of God, are totally forgiven, washed clean, sanctified, and justified new creations in Christ. This is how God sees us, and this is how God will always see us.

We once were a worm, but we have been transformed into a beautiful butterfly. Can we still act like the worm we were? Absolutely. Does that mean we are changed back into a worm? Absolutely not. It simply means we are acting like what we used to be. The Holy Spirit is constantly reminding us of who we now are in Christ. And as we learn and believe what He is teaching us about the new us, we begin to see that to think and act like what we used to be, just doesn't make sense.

The Holy Spirit lovingly shows us our God, and who we now are as Children of God. So that we will no longer wallow in the dirt, but so that we will fly like the butterfly's that we truly are.

Peace

Hi ksaraah...

You are really making your salvation way to complicated. The question is do you desire Christ in your life? Do you dwell on Him being in your life and have you ask Him to into your life. If you say yes to these questions you have received His loving grace and salvation.

From the questions you are asking I feel confident you do belong…otherwise you wouldn’t have expressed interest.

Bob

@ksaraah,
How are you doing? It's great to bear out your thoughts so we could all share and reflect on the question of being born again. I hope to deal with this in two parts - first addressing the comments of the poster from your LJ; and then sharing a few other bits on the subject of being born again.

The commentaries you reposted from your LJ seem to have missed it right from the onset. This is what the poster had stated as regards 1 Cor. 6:9 -

quote:

"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? (This shoots down the unscriptural Doctrine of Unconditional Eternal Security)

In the first place, the poster sculpts out his/her own idea about the subject of eternal security and then claims it is unscriptural. Problem is that they based their entire treatise of salvation on works, and not on the grace of God offered in Jesus Christ.

Let me put it simply: we cannot be "rewarded" for being saved (Rom. 4:4); but we shall be rewarded according to our works, whatever they may be (1 Cor. 3:13-14, and 2 Cor. 5:10). That is the collective and consistent testimony of Scripture - there is not one work of righteousness we did that would qualify us to stand on our merit before God (2 Tim. 1:9); and there is not one iota of work we could do to improve on what God has done to save us. If there were ever such a work to improve on God's saving grace, it would be a slight upon His mercy and an insult that declares that God's work is not perfect! Salvation is a gift offered freely in Christ (Rom. 6:23) - and God has perfected that work before He offered it to any one of us. We should be thankful that He saved us; for which one of our best efforts would effect our justification before His absolute holiness? None whatsoever. It is all of Him (Rom. 11:34-36).

Never try to trust in your efforts to merit God's grace - such a 'salvation by self' will hugely disappoint the bearer when we appear before the Lord Jesus Christ.

Now the second aspect - the meaning of being born again.

The concept of the new birth is pointing simply to one thing: our receiving the life of God in us by faith in Jesus Christ. It is not the receiving of a doctrine or an experience - these will come after the necessary and basic thing: to receive a Living Person - Jesus Christ the Son of God.

What does receiving Jesus mean? Basically it means to believe on Him for:
~~~ who He says He is - (John 8:24)
~~~ what He has done for us - (John 12:32-33)

Certainly, there are ways in which these are expressed in other verses, and we are all familiar with Romans 10:9 - 'That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved'. And so it is. One example that I have found really helpful about how to believe is in Acts 8:37 - 'And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.'

How does God respond to our faith and confession of Jesus as Lord?

Quite simply, He gives us the Holy Spirit to live in our hearts and to bear witness with our spirits that we are the children of God (Rom. 8:15-16). The Spirit does not bring about doubts in our hearts; for He only bears witness to the truth of God's Word in our hearts.

Do truly born again believers not doubt sometimes? Yes, they do. However, this does not mean that God at anytime changed His mind. It rather would challenge us to rest our convictions on the power of God and not on anything else. God fulfills His word to as many as truly trust Him; and for anyone who may have trusted in Him but wonders if he/she truly is God's child, I would prayerfull turn them to the testimony of the Word which the Holy Spirit inspired:

"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God" - 1 John 5:13

May the Lord enrich you daily in Him.
