who were the "multitudes" that followed Jesus? Were they believers? I am having an issue with that. When Jesus said " the gate is narrow that leads to heaven and few will make it" was he talking to His followers? believers? Or non believers? because if he was telling believers that the gate is narrow and few (of us) will make it, then that is huge to me. On the other hand, if they werent believers then he could have meant that HE is the narrow road to take. Please help! Thank you. God Bless

It was a mixed crowd, most of the time. Some of them liked Jesus for awhile, but when His preaching became too difficult for them (giving up possessions, putting God before anything and anyone else, etc.), they showed themselves to not really be believers by turning away. When Jesus says that the gate is narrow, it doesn't mean that only some true believers will make it to Heaven. Rather, it means that, sadly, most of the world will choose to go to their graves thumbing their nose at God. And it's our job to go out there and reach them with His love before that happens! : )

Jesus was talking to you and me. He also said: "Not everyone who calls me 'Lord, Lord' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only those who do what my Father in Heaven wants them to do." Matthew 7:21 This means we should live our lives, every day, as God would want us to. Remember His commandment - to love Him with all our heart, mind and soul and to love others as we love ourselves. In practice, this means helping those less fortunate than ourselves by giving our money (where we can afford it) our time and our practical help. It also means to go out and witness to others about God and Jesus. When we meet Him He will probably ask us: "You say you believed in me. Did you tell others about me to help them believe?" This is quite a responsibility He has placed on His followers. Hence the narrow gate.
