If all the states on the NPR map vote as the polls indicate, Obama will win. BUT, if the states that are just leaning towards Obama but voted Bush in the last election go to McCain (and McCain retains all the states already marked as his and leaning toward McCain) then McCain will win. Given that, I really can't predict. McCain's campaign has been hitting hard here in Ohio over the weekend. It's seems to be effective since last week Ohio was marked as leaning towards Obama and now it's marked as leaning toward McCain.

I don't know about the other states. I live in Virginia. I think it could still go either way, it's very close. I have noticed a lot more McCain ads lately and I think McCain has focused more on this state in the past week or so, he was just here on Saturday for a rally and thousands attended.

I would like to think that the military vote in Virginia would swing to McCain.

But Northern Virginia is much more liberal than the rest of the state. Fairfax County alone surpassed the 1 million mark in population a few years ago. It is also the richest area in Virginia, it has grown more urbanized...more liberal. I know there are pockets of conservatives in Northern Virginia, I've seen the McCain yard signs and bumper stickers but I see just as many Obama ones too. I hope it goes to McCain but our current governor is a Democrat. 2 years ago the Republican incumbent senator lost his seat to a newcomer Democrat. The other Senator is retiring, he's a Republican and the chances are very good that the Democrat challenger Mark Warner will win the seat over Republican candidate John Gilmore (both are former governors too). So Obama still has a very good chance of winning this state.

Southwest Va. is conservative in thinking but they will vote for a democrat.

Here are the major swing states: Especially take a guess on these. Florida - McCain Missouri - McCain North Carolina - McCain (surprised it's a toss up) Virginia - McCain (This is my home state - May still go for Obama) Pennsylvania - Obama (McCain wasted his money here) Ohio - This is a toughy......I'm guessing Obama New Hampshire - Obama Indiana - McCain Colorado - Also a tough one. I'm guessing Obama If they call Florida and Virginia for Obama early on, the race is over for McCain.

Great thread but how bout this if you want to show your prediction more graphically. Use mine to change what you want. http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/president/whos-ahead/key-states/map.html#/map=CGD1E you can change the map to show and share your predictions. First click "Your Map" on menu at top. Then click on states to change their color. Then click blue button on lower left to get link to your map. McCain definately gets OH, but not sure about CO, NH , or VA (especially with the military vote debacle). edited: One more thing I forgot to say, why in the world was Obama out in Iowa a few days ago? I thought that was supposed to be a lock. Of course the MSM didn't report this.

ORIGINAL: Zhi I mostly base that on the fact that the troops lean McCain, we have a LOT of people registered here in the military, and they never get polled but tend to vote at high numbers. Ummm...about those military votes...the ones abroad, anyway...

At this point I just want Colorado to stay red and for the Democrats to have less then 60 seats in the Senate. I will not be a happy person if Colorado lets Boulder ruin it.
