Your basic credit report is free from ANNUAL Credit Report, the government site. But if you the score, you have to pony up a few $$.

ORIGINAL: OneOfHisJewels Thanks, Shar Mar...they gave me a report for free..but if I wanted an actual score, they still wanted $5.95. Sighhhhh I payed off 2 maxed out credit cards this year, and closed one account, and am not going to use the other account for anything but emergencies..so although I want to know my credit score, I sure don't want to use my credit card to find it. My ATM card has the Master Card logo, though, so maybe I'll have to use that. Rebekah, you can mail in a credit report request; perhaps you can also mail in the $5.95 in check or money order form to request your score. Below is their mailing address and their phone number, in case you want to call and ask them: quote:
To order . . . call 877-322-8228, or complete the Annual Credit Report Request Form and mail it to: Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281. The above quote is taken from the website and can be found under the category, "Ordering Your Free Credit Report." .

Also, please remember that there are 3 credit reporting agencies and you have 3 different scores. Those scores can vary quite a bit so just because you get one doesn't mean that is your score with all three. Frustrating, I know.

Jewels, if you apply for credit and are denied, you are entitled to a free copy of your credit report. So you could just apply for something you know you won't get, then get your report that way. Not the easiest, but it works.

You can contact the credit bureaus directly. Equifax P.O. Box 740241 Atlanta, GA 30374 1-800-685-1111 Experian P.O. Box 2002 Allen, TX 75013 1 888 397 3742 TransUnion P.O. Box 1000 Chester, PA 19022 1-800-888-4213 They may to try and sell you on their service as well, but you are entitled to one free report per year quote:
Isn't everyone entitled to one free credit report annually? Yes, the FACT Act is making an annual free credit report available to all U.S. citizens by September, 2005. In addition, these laws still apply: By Federal law, you are entitled to one free credit report per year directly from a credit reporting agency only if you certify that: - you are unemployed and seeking employment in the next 60 days. - you are receiving public assistance. - you believe there are inaccuracies in your report due to fraud. Also, if you are denied credit on the basis of information in a credit report you are entitled to a free copy of your report from the credit bureau that supplied the credit report. Residents of Colorado, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Vermont are entitled by state law to one free report from a credit reporting agency per year. Residents of Georgia are entitled to two. quote:
