What did you think of The Alchemist? My son just left it home for me to read but I'm in the midst of other books right now.

I'm currently reading Water From a Deep Well by Gerald L. Sittser. Also will be starting Whistling in the Dark for my book group.

Truthfully, I didn't like it that well. I read it as part of a committee that is choosing a common reader for a community college and the general consensus (of about 15 people) was that it was a yawner. It's a quick read, though, and easy, so I won't discourage you from reading it. Maybe you'll get more out of it than I did.

Thanks for your feedback. I have the impression that there is almost a 'cultic' kind of following regarding this book and it didn't make much sense to me from what I've read about it. But I'm not going to rush into reading it based on your thoughts---I don't need a 'yawner'. LL

It's not a bad read it's just not up to the hype IMO.

Thanks, stephanie! That is true for lots of things, isn't it? I'm putting this book on the back burner and will read it when I make the time.

I just finished reading a book by RC James (yes - our own rcjames) and it was brilliant. I read a lot of books and I found this book was not only a great testimony but a good teaching book also. I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend it. In fact, quite a few of my friends at work now want to read it (and they are not Christians - yet!!!)

My next book is praying through the Bible by Stormie O'martian. I love her books. The Lord has used her ministry greatly to help me in prayer.

I just finished reading the entire Twilight Saga. I'm thinking of reading it again. I've never really read any romance books, I was pleasantly surprised by them.

Some romances are very good. A lot of them are trash, of course.

I finally finished Oryx and Crake. That took forever, but I did really like the end.

Now I can work on The White Tiger (Aravind Adiga) and get started on The Glass Palace (Amitav Ghosh).

Andrew Womack's "The War is Over".

"Glory to God, peace on earth, good will toward men." (Luke 2:14)
Is this saying Jesus came to create peace among men? If it is then He has most certainly failed. The peace He spoke of was not among men, but between God and man. Chapter 7- The Gospel

This is an excellent book to release people from condemnation.

You realize that it's FICTION, right? Why would you even think about the theology in a fictitious book? This is something I will never understand. It's made up in some guy's mind, why would made up theology in a made up world in a made up book bother anybody?

Amen, brother!! I said exactly the same thing about The DaVinci Code, but Christians still got in an uproar over it.
