About The DaVinci Code, you and I know it's just a load of dingoes' kidneys, but the Great Unwashed (and Unchurched) Masses really thought it was solid history.

You realize that it's FICTION, right? Why would you even think about the theology in a fictitious book? This is something I will never understand. It's made up in some guy's mind, why would made up theology in a made up world in a made up book bother anybody?

Amen, brother!! I said exactly the same thing about The DaVinci Code, but Christians still got in an uproar over it.

Just like any other religious or Christian-themed book that has mainstream success, less discerning people that do not normally read the Bible or commentaries or other theology books will take these books as gospel truth. So the theology of these books is extremely important, unless you don't care how God is presented to the world. But like i said, I'm not finished with it and I'm giving it a chance. I'm reading it for myself before I come to a conclusion on it.

"A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini-the same man who wrote "The Kite Runner" which I also read.

Yes I think it's good. The same caliber of writing as "the Kite Runner"- a lot of reviews said it was better. I'm not sure if it is better, but I'm not done with it either.

Go ahead and get it-I do not think you will be disappointed.

Lisa Samson = really good. I don't think I could read more than one book of hers in a row, though. They're a little too somber.

What's So Great About Christianity, by Dinesh D'Souza.

From the back:

quote:

Is Christianity obsolete?

Can an intelligent person believe the Bible?

Has Christianity been disproved by science?

New York Times best-selling author Dinesh D'Souza objectively examines the arguments and rhetoric in the current atheist-led debate about God and Christianity. Meeting the atheists' arguments on their own terms, he demonstrates how religious belief can be reconciled with reason and science. The result is a book that challenges the assumptions that people have about Christianity and affirms that there really is something great about Christianity.

Should be equally read by those who read atheists arguments.

I'm just starting James Patterson's Cross Country

I can't wait to get to that one. It sounds so good.

It was, but more for the portrait it paints of the mess that's going on in Africa than for the usual Patterson suspense.

I finished Patterson's "2nd Chance" in 2 days. Could not put it down.

I'm now reading Stephen Lawhead's "Arthur", book 3 of his Pendragon Cycle. If the first two are any indication, I won't be posting in here for about 3 weeks.

I had to force myself to read the Lawhead Pendragen series. I liked is very first series that he had out but haven't read it in years. I love fantasy so it's hard to find it in Christian circles sometimes.

Most of the women at my church are reading The Shack, so that's what I'm currently reading (just to keep up with their conversations). And yes, I've read the entire thread dedicated to that particular book.
