Yes, "The Christmas Box" had me a blubbering mess.

Have you ever cried while reading a book?

Absolutely. I'm a total wuss when it comes to both books and movies. When watching a movie or reading a book with my wife, I often have to pretend I'm blowing my nose or something like that to cover up the fact that my wife is more of a man than I am when it comes to emotional scenes.

Last night I cried after reading about the sabbath in "The Torah Blessing." The Spirit overcame me and I cried out to God. I thanked Him for opening my eyes to the blessings in the shabbat service and just how much many have missed its full meaning.

I cried when I was in 5th grade and read one of the Babysitter's Club books. All I can remember is that Dawn's dog died and it crushed my world.

Peggy Stok's Romy's Walk is the saddest one I've read, but any times books get to a tense part tears gather in me eyes.

I really don't like book or movies with the dogs dying! (I'm looking at you I Am Legend)

It's almost like the authors are being unfair... Anyway, I definately cried during The Green Mile by Stephen King, Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah(when the family killed her duck. so cruel), Ptolemy's Gate by Jonathan Stroud, and plenty of others. Sometime's I'll cry during the weirdest scenes.

The end of Jane Eyre, when Mr Rochester can see she's wearing blue

Bits of Black Beauty

A bit in Hidden Rainbow, by Christmas Carol Kauffman

The selfish giant by Oscar Wilde

Bits of Ann Drysdale's books

Those are the ones I can particularly remember offhand.

Me too. Hate it. Will actually never watch/read the scene where the dog (or horse...Black Beauty, how could you?!) dies ever, ever again. Yes, I am an adult. No, that will never change.

But....yes.....
- Little Women (Beth!!!)
- The Fellowship of the Ring (Gandalf!)
- Lion, Witch, & the Wardrobe (Aslan!)
- Anne of Green Gables (Matthew!)
- The Call of the Wild (more dogs...booooooooo), and actually anything Jack London...I actually can't read him anymore because he has such a penchant for killing off sled dogs.

...there's been others, I'm sure, but the older I get the less I cry over books and movies (with the exception of dogs, of course).

Someone spoiled the whole Dumbledore thing for me so I didn't cry. I hate it when people spoil books like that.

I cried when I read Daniels story. A book about the holocaust, that has quite a bit more to it than just anne frank. Only book I have cried reading. I have, however, burned/torn/destroyed/decimated certain books after reading them so I will never pick them back up again......And I had to make a vow never to pick up Steven King or Anne Rice ever again....Their writing style makes me very very angry, and tests the bounds of my tolerance.

For years I had a copy of Power of One on my desk with a dagger sticking through it. I finished the book while family was over(my aunt and uncle who gave it to me). I took the dagger out of my desk drawer, stabbed the book, and went and plopped it on the coffee table. It deals with racial issues in South Africa during apartheid. My family happened to be having a rather heated discussion on race at my dinner table. It took 2 years for anyone to get the guts to ask to read the book, but at least the race comments stopped at the dinner table.

Every time my teachers would read Where the Red Fern Grows I would end up bawling. Not the best thing considering like it was read to us for 3 years in a row and even knowing what was coming would still have me crying.

The only author I have ever cried through is Karen Kingsbury. I don't know why, 'cause I'm not usually that emotional of a book, but Karen Kingsbury is such a sophisticated writer that I just cried through a couple of them.

I have shed a few tears reading a book, but it was not for sadness, it was always in awe of the strength of those facing adversity, the boldness of the heros or heroines in overcoming impossible challenges.

Having said that, I can't recall the books that make this happen, but as soon as I remember, I'll post back and let you know.

I cry all the time when reading. I still cry when re-reading those old "Little House" books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Especially the ones her daughter Rose wrote about their life in Mansfield Mo.
