Soon, I am giving my two kitties, "Flossie" and "Reiko" to friends. They are beautiful girls. Flossie is very curious and mischievious. Reiko is very elegant and sophisticated with her long fur and big golden eyes.

I will especially miss Flossie Darling.

Once I begin chemo, I cannot be anywhere near a cat litter box, due to risk of infection. So the girls gotta go.

I will ask my oncologist when I see him for the first time Tuesday if I can keep my dog, Jack Jasper Judge. Jack is half Aussie Shepherd, half Irish Setter. The big goofy mutt just loves to lay sleeping at my feet all day. He's my special lad.

Today a friend and I are going to the Sizzler restaurant for their all-you-can-eat salad bar. It will be an enjoyable time.

I feel sad today at the prospect of having to get rid of Flossie and Reiko.

HI Pamela, I'm scheduled for my 5th round of chemo (out of 12) this Wednesday for Stage III colon cancer. We'll be getting different drugs, but I know a bit about what you are and are not allowed to do.

You CAN keep your dog. The cats are only a problem if you cannot find someone to clean the litter box for you. You might be able to wear a mask and then wash your arms well afterwards. Hubby cleans Patches' two boxes for me. Kitty sleeps with me and our huge dog is an inside dog.

You cannot do yard work because of the bacteria in the soil. You should not sunbathe because chemo affects sensitivity. No flossing! Soft toothbrush only. No dental work without approval of your oncologist.

Some people have nausea but they'll give you a prescription for that. You might sleep a lot or be extra tired for a day or so after chemo. It doesn't hurt. In fact, you don't feel anything. I watch TV, read and visit with others during chemo. It's not scary at all, tho I was quite afraid before the first treatment. My chemo room is equipped with a fridge, coffee, tea, juices, snacks, etc. The two chemo nurses joke and visit with us. I forget why I'm there, at times, and take the time to uplift and pray for the other patients. :o)

My mother had breast cancer (like yours) over 25 years ago. She was not offered chemo back then but took a chemo pill. She's never been sick again.

I had colon cancer surgery on Jan. 7th, chemo began 5 weeks later, surgery to implant a Powerport in my chest for chemo, gall bladder surgery 3 days ago and I walked 3 1/2 miles yesterday. I am not allowed to lift over 10 lbs because of the surgery but life is as usual! Please don't think life is over!

Unless I missed something, I have NO idea why the nurses would suggest you get diapers, wheelchair, oxygen, etc!

Please join and participate in the American Cancer Survivor's Network for Breast Cancer at: http://csn.cancer.org/forum/127

God Bless!

I have an enormous answer to prayer and praise report!!!

Twice I have written to the OWNER of the Apartments where I live for air conditioning in my bedroom. The a/c in the front area does not cool way into my bedroom.

One hot night last summer, I literally had to get up 4 times and take a cold shower.

The owner's written response was that if they got an a/c for me, they'd have to get one for everyone, and their budget did not allow for this.

One final time, I wrote a 1-page letter to the owner, stating I'd been recently diagnosed with breast cancer, would they reduce my rent so I could save up for an a/c.

The Manager just called me. The owner is buying me an a/c, it has been ordered and it will be installed for me very soon!

Thank You, Lord Jesus! Praise God on this 99-degree Spring day!

Your sister in Christ,

I appreciate everyone's prayers and words of kindness and encouragement!

Today, I see my oncologist for the first time!

I wonder if I'll have to get the VAD installed today?

Scared.

Father,

Your daughter, Pamela, needs You to give her extra courage and strength today.
I pray that her meeting with the oncologist will go well, and that she will feel comfortable with him.
Give this doctor wisdom and skill in knowing how best to help her.
Remove her fear and anxiety and keep her in the center of Your Will.
Surround her with Your Perfect PEACE which is beyond our understanding.
Protect her from all harm and keep her close to Your Heart.

In Jesus' name I ask these things,
Amen.

Hello!

At my oncology appointment today, my friend/neighbor that drove me and I sat in the waiting room with two other Christians!

This is what is known at this time:

The cancer ER status is Triple Positive, which is good because it allows more treatment options.

The tumor size is 7 centimeters.

The HER2 is not known---awaiting results from Vanderbilt University.

I will lose my hair---have already ordered a hat and turbans from the American Cancer Society.

I have a heart arrhythmia, and the oncologist wants me to have an echocardiogram to make sure my heart is strong enough for chemo.

Today, I was started on Femara, and my oncologist feels that Herceptin will be amongst my chemo regimen of choice. Someone will pick up my prescription at the pharmacy tomorrow.

Chest CT scan shows: COPD.

Thank you all for your prayers!

Yesterday, a friend from church drove me a 140-mile roundtrip to see my neurologist.

It was an enjoyable trip there---on the way back I was very sleepy.

I've had this neurologist for 39 years. I see her for treatment of my grand mal seizure disorder, which I've had since birth.

On generic Dilantin (phenytoin) I have had NO SEIZURES for 41 years. We're talkin' no seizures since 1968!

She was sorry to hear my news about breast cancer. My doctor said she'd continue to see me once a year for the seizure disorder, and she wants me to call and or write to her about how I'm doing, etc.

I told her that I'd named one of my polydactyl cats after her. She said: "You named your cat Dr. Russin?" I laughed and said: "No. I named her Reiko." She was pleased.

When I walked to the front desk, I asked the office lady if they accepted Medi-Cal insurance. Before the lady could answer, Dr. Russin said: "For you we do, Pam."

Praise God for one miracle after another!

I start taking the Femara this morning. It's a chemo drug. I'm scared.
