Dred, there are snake handling churches all over the southeast, it's just that Sand Mountain (actually Scottsboro - so there's a bit of an inaccuracy here since Sand Mountain is across the river) is where Covington originally made contact.

Going by the title of the post. I'm reading about three books right now, but "Praying with St Paul: Daily Reflections on the Letter of the Apostle Paul" is really good. As the title implies it's sort of a daily devotion but the author(s) reflect on St. Paul's lettters verse by verse starting from The Letter to the Romans up to his Letter to Philemon. It's very insightful and by the end of the year, I would have done an intensive study of the letters of St. Paul.

No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy Good choice! I just finished reading Number the Stars by Lois Lowry and a number of children's picture books that are on my list of books I must read before I grow up and am STILL listening Robinson Crusoe. Also reading By The River by Steven Herrick. Blessings, Garsy

Blessings, Garsy That's a lot of books. How long have you been working on this? As a children's librarian, I'm trying to fill in the gaps of books I should have read--such as Holes, Hatchett, Bridge to Terrabithia-- books I should have read.

ORIGINAL: RogerBennett_Fan Uncle Tom's Cabin by H. B. Stowe I love that book. Our homeschool drama club put on that play fifteen years ago, and I played Eliza and my (now) husband played George. That's kind of how we got together, actually, so I have fond memories associated with that book.

As a children's librarian, I'm trying to fill in the gaps of books I should have read--such as Holes, Hatchett, Bridge to Terrabithia-- books I should have read. I got the book for Christmas and decided to take this journey right about the beginning of this year. So I went through the book and figured I had read roughly 150-160 of them, give or take a few. The count is now up to 302. Of course the book is divided into a bunch of sections and I started with the books for children under the age of 8 or so. So I've been reading TONS of picture books! Occasionally I'll throw in a book from the other end of the list as I find them or just something that I can carry with me in my bag. After I'm done with By the River (Steven Herrick) I'll move on to Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli as my 5th grader may be reading this in the next few months. His older sister did and I think his older brother did too. Bridge to Terrabithia is one of my all time favorites and one of only a handful of books that I suggested for my 12 year old over the last couple of years that she actually read and loved! Maybe I should start a new thread about this so I don't derail this thread to much! And children's librarians are some of my favorite people!!! Blessings, Garsy

I'm reading The Checklist Manifesto by Atul Gawande. He's one of my favorite authors of medical topics. This one has the preemise that our knowledge has advanced beyond what anybody can possibly be expected to have at his or her fingertips. Gawande's simple solution is checklists. However, when introduced into hospitals, the staff resists tooth and nail--except if they or a loved one is the patient. Then they want a checklist employed.

Ayn Rand is one of my favs. A long time ago while at my mother's, i had nothing to read so i picked up an old paperback entitled We The Living, by Ayn Rand. Found i could not put it down. Afterwards read both Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, the last of which was read at least twice. As for now am reading Soul by Tobsha Learner. Another page turner.
