Recently finished 'The Man Who Was Thursday' by Chesterton and 'Alice in Wonderland' by Charles Dodgson (aka Lewis Carroll). Many people don't know Dodgson was a respectable mathematician and that without the encouragement of his good friend, George MacDonald, he'd have never published that famous story. Currently reading 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' by Jules Verne and 'Hymn of Entry' by Archimandrite Vasileios.

I just finished reading a brand new book which contains Jim Elliot's own words. (A Christian missionary who was slain years ago along with 4 others.) The book is called "JIM ELLIOT: A Christian Martyr Speaks to You" Wow! He talks about the christian life, sin in the believer, the apostle peter and Jesus Christ-God's prophet. I learned so much and it has changed my outlook on life. Its a great read!

I'd forgotten about it. I read a book about him years ago and it was amazing.

Yes, but I have to admit that the movie was so bad I couldn't remember a single thing (other than that Sean Connery was in it) until I started reading the graphic novel. Then I got little flashes. Basically the charm of the graphic novel is the level of detail in the pictures (excellent), the references to Victorian lit/characters (my favorite part), and the sly pokes at the racism and sexism of the day. It is far more graphic than the movie in terms of sex and violence though. Be aware of that. I won't say it's so good that I'll read another (I think there are 2 or 3), but it was okay. It did make me realize how far 'comic books' have come in the last 20-30 years.

Norman, Bleak House is my favorite book. Have you seen the recent Masterpiece Theater presentation of the book? It starred Gillian Anderson ( yes, of X-Files) as Lady Dedlock. If you haven't seen it before, you might want to check it out - after you've finished the book, of course. Cheryl

Cheryl, No, I haven't seen the Masterpiece Theater production. I'll have to see if they have it at the library sometime. I don't need to wait until I finish the book. I've read it several times before. Norman
