quote:
ORIGINAL: cynthia WOF, I think it would help if you were to post the scriptural reference about the thigh. yep: Isaiah 47:2-3 Take millstones and grind flour; take off your veil. Lift up your skirts, bare your legs, and wade through the streams. 3 Your nakedness will be exposed and your shame uncovered. I will take vengeance; I will spare no one." The King James adds the thigh in there, but most modern translations merely say the leg... Exodus 28:42 And you shall make for them linen trousers to cover their nakedness; they shall reach from the waist to the thighs. Granted...Exodus was specifically talking about garments for the priests...but in the NT...we, as believers, are all called part of the priesthood. That said....Peter is referred to as naked in the NT, and that he dove the water when Jesus came...now it is highly unlikely he was completely naked as that would have been a 'crime' in his culture...but he had probably stripped down to his undergarments which may or may not have satisfied the thigh being covered....

In my mother and grandmothers day, in the deep south it was ankle to wrist covering for women. No pants allowed. No open-toed shoes were allowed. This was the dress code they had to have in church and were expected to comply with in secular society as well. They also had to deal with prohibitions against "mixed bathing". It is not what you think. It meant males and females could not swim together, even with supervision on a public beach. Thankfully my parents moved before any of us were born so we would not have to deal with all of the rules. Whenever we went back to visit we were briefed on the differences we would face and the ways to deal with them. It would be the same as someone briefing me about how my life will be moving to Saudi Arabia. Their were too many gender and racial separation issues going on at the time.

The point of this thread though is how to keep our sons pure....and one way is to teach them to respect themselves and women enough to NOT goggle women who don't have the sense to dress with respect for themselves or the men around them..and to avoid movies, music and literature that push sexual activities outside of marriage..and to dress in ways that show respect for themselves and the women around them as well. Sexually pure is SO much more far reaching than merely virginity, or what type of clothes someone wears. It is choosing to turn away from temptation....no matter how prettily it might be packaged, or how difficult to stand up to the cultural norm of "you are weird if you don't have a girl friend, or have a girlfriend you haven't at least kissed: by the time you are X age.
