Underlying reason is the same for both men and women; selfishness and lack of boundaries...they put their own needs and wants above that of their spouse and the good of the marriage, and don't do what is needed to nurture and protect their marriage.

People don't seem to want to build relationships. Handing out Chick tracts or inviting people to church seems to be the common forms of "sharing" the Gospel. Sure it might make you a little nervous, but there is no real connection or long term personal cost.

so, if my husband really, earnestly asked me to NOT shave my legs, i would try to reason with him, failing that, i would rub my hairy, stabby lower legs on him until he bled. that would change his mind for sure.
